Fire Update: Moving Forward

Posted by on

As you know, we have had a devastating fire one month ago, on January 4, 2020.  It has been very hard on all of us here at Island Outfitters.  We have missed our valued customers immensely.  The past 25 years have been filled with so much love put into building Island Outfitters to make it what it is today.  We cannot express how devastating this fire has been to all involved.  Our team is working tirelessly through this difficult time, alongside the insurance company, to get answers for what our future holds.

Thankfully, no one was hurt.  There was however a large amount of damage caused to the building, as well as our inventory.  Until now, we have not released any visuals.  We feel it is important for us to share these pictures, so everyone can understand the extent of the damage.

We want to sincerely thank you for your outreach and support over the last month.  Insurance is a timely process, and although we do not have a set time frame yet, we will be re-opening and getting back to the business we all love.

Moving forward, we are looking forward too many upcoming events and can ensure you that we will keep you posted on our future.

Victoria Boat Show: February 21-23, 2020

We are excited to attend the upcoming Boat Show again this year – this will be a great opportunity to come down and use any Island Outfitters gift cards you have.  This year, the Boat Show is back at Pearkes Recreation Centre.  The show dates are February 21-23 and we can’t wait to see you there!

PSF Gala Dinner: March 7, 2020

Another annual event that we are looking forward to attending is the Pacific Salmon Foundations 25th annual South Vancouver Island Gala Dinner & Auction on March 7.  Net proceeds raised from this event are directed towards critical salmon restoration projects in local areas.

We are also looking forward to our annual ‘Just for the Halibut’ fishing derby.  This year, the derby will be on June 13 and June 14.

Canadian Firearms Safety Course & CORE Course:

Many are looking for information regarding the PAL and CORE courses as we have always been there to facilitate the sign-up process.  If you are looking to get set up for either course, please contact Murray Kilshaw at 250-382-1029 or email him at

Fishing Charters

We are very thankful to have the fishing charter part of our business unaffected by the fire.  Fishing charters are allowing a number of our staff to keep working.  We appriciate every new booking and are thrilled to be out on the water.

As always, we are excited about the opportunities we have on Vancouver Island for some exceptional fishing.  Year-round, we fish out of the heart of downtown Victoria. From May through September, we also fish out of the quaint fishing town of Port Renfrew (a two-hour scenic drive from Victoria).  As well, Island Outfitters offers freshwater charters on the Cowichan River – a great fly-fishing opportunity.

Whether you are an avid angler looking to run your own rods; or, a novice fisherman looking for a fun day learning new techniques, Island Outfitters guides have the experience needed to make your trip the ultimate West Coast experience.  To book a trip, please email or call 250-475-4969.

Again, thank you for your support.  Not only over the past month, but over the last 25 years.  We couldn’t have done it without all our valued customers and the local fishing and hunting community we are so lucky to share.
